Where better to go for a fall getaway than Miami? Sunny beaches and great food with the added feature of seeing many beautiful pieces of jewelry and gemstones bring excitement to every gem enthusiast! The event planners for JCK know how to attract a crowd and did just that for the JIS Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center October 15-18th.
At every show, a gem buyer knows they are going to be able to find tanzanite. Tanzanite used to be the stone you would see at almost every other booth because every supplier in the world wanted a chance to deal in this rare gemstone. This was not the case at the last few major trade shows, including the JIS Show, which was 25% bigger overall but had substantially less tanzanite suppliers. Is it because suppliers aren’t as interested in tanzanite? Not at all! It’s only because there is so little tanzanite coming out of the mines compared to past years. With this decreased supply, most suppliers that go to Arusha to find tanzanite are leaving empty handed. Therefore, only the sightholders, like us, are promised an amount of what is being mined.
Tanzanite used to mainly be a stone for the U.S. market, but no more. The aisles of this show were a little different than most because there was a major appearance of buyers from Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and especially the Caribbean Islands. Because of these buyers, some of who are newer to the world of tanzanite, it was reported that tanzanite was the hottest selling gemstone at the show!
